Career and Qualifications

Theresa Weatherly brings extensive experience in core disability support services to her role at PoDDSS. She works closely with individuals and stakeholders to develop, implement and monitor Positive Behaviour Support Plans. Her approach is person-centred and aims to help people overcome barriers and reach their potential. Theresa holds bachelor’s degrees in Psychological Science and Business, a postgraduate diploma in Psychology, a Certificate IV in Disability, and several professional development qualifications. These include training in Optimal Individual Service Design with Michael Kendrick and Positive Practices in Behaviour Support through the Institute for Applied Behaviour Analysis (IABA).

Experience in Disability Support

Theresa began her journey in the disability sector in 2009 as a support worker. By late 2010, she had moved into team leadership, coordinating supports in group SIL homes, day services, 24/7 individualised care, and community access. These roles gave her a broad understanding of the challenges faced by individuals, families, and support teams. Her leadership success is grounded in her ability to consider different perspectives and apply her qualifications and real-world experience. This has enabled her to shape support services that genuinely reflect the unique needs of those she works with.

Practice Framework and Approach

Theresa’s approach is strongly influenced by Michael Kendrick’s “20 Universal Domains of Needs”, which span basic essentials such as health, nutrition and housing, as well as deeper needs like valued social roles, learning, growth, and respect. She aligns these principles with PoDDSS’s IABA-informed Positive Behaviour Support practices, which use quality-of-life measures to guide planning. Theresa connects with PoDDSS’s vision: “Think big, start small, move slowly, grow.” Her values and working style fit naturally with the organisation’s commitment to thoughtful, high-quality support that empowers individuals and their communities.

Personal Perspective and Contact Details

Theresa also draws from personal experience with mental health, epilepsy, ADHD and other challenges, helping her understand and connect with the people she supports. Her empathy and insight shape how she engages with clients, families, and colleagues. In her spare time, Theresa enjoys nature, spending time with family, gardening, arts and crafts, cycling and reading—activities that keep her grounded and balanced. She is proud to be part of the PoDDSS team and continues to provide quality Positive Behaviour Support services. You can contact her on 0499 009 316 or by email at theresa@PoDDSS.com.au.
