Professional Background


Jennifer Heron brings a wealth of experience from her career in child protection, where she worked as a therapist and counsellor. She specialised in developing and implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans. Over the past 17 years, she has supported children and young people in a variety of settings, including out-of-home care, mother and baby units, and youth mental health services. Educated in Scotland, Jennifer spent the first decade of her career there before relocating to Townsville. Her qualifications include Behavioural Science, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), trauma and attachment, and suicide prevention.

Jennifer is experienced in working with children, young people, and families from diverse backgrounds. She also has hands-on experience in the fields of domestic violence and sexual assault, having served as part of the sexual assault response team in Townsville. She integrates cultural understanding into every aspect of her work, recognising the significant role culture plays in shaping behaviour and identity. Jennifer ensures cultural values are prioritised when developing Positive Behaviour Support Plans, aiming to create strategies that are respectful, relevant, and genuinely person-centred.
